There are certain times in everyone’s life when the temptation of a fad diet is sometimes overwhelming. Those times when your clothes are getting tight and even the car feels too small. They promise quick results and pounds and pounds of weight loss. It all sounds good to someone who is looking in the mirror and wants the weight off yesterday. Low carb, no carb, low fat, prepackaged foods, shakes, and pills all promise miracles, but is the diet of the moment really the best approach to weight loss?
The desire to take the weight off quickly is usually what drives people to fad diets. It also seems so simple in the advertisements. Just take a pill or drink two shakes a day and soon you will look like a supermodel. There are no mentions of exercise or moderation. Or even taking a good hard look at the foods that you are eating that may cause weight gain. What those diets do not tell you is that unless you take control of your eating and engage in some exercise the weight loss will most likely be temporary. The more practical approach is doing some research on nutrition. Speak with your doctor on the best approach to losing some weight. A doctor is probably not going to steer you towards something as unhealthy as the latest fad diet. Another step is a food journal. Keep track of what you are eating currently and when you are eating the most. It can be an eye opening experience to see everything that you consume in a day. And it can give you a good idea of the areas you need to work on. Once you are on track with a sensible healthy approach to your eating habits, it’s time to incorporate some exercise. Start off with something enjoyable like a nice brisk walk. You will be amazed at how good a little exercise will make you feel in a relatively short period of time. In addition to the increased energy, just the act of completing your exercise for the day will give you a wonderful feeling of accomplishment. Consistency is a key to maintaining this healthy lifestyle you have embarked on. Don’t let yourself be derailed by occasional slips. Eating something that may not be the healthiest choice is not a reason to throw in the towel. Engage yourself with something, play online casino or other games on your smartphone. There will be stressful times when a piece of chocolate is the answer to your prayers. Allow yourself to be human and have the chocolate, just don’t let it drag you down into an unhealthy lifestyle again. In fact, plan for times when you are going to indulge in something completely decadent. When you plan for it, it will be easier to get back on track. Eating healthy does not have to be punishment. You can find ways to cook delicious healthy foods and enjoy every delectable bite without guilt. You will find that you feel better about yourself and have boundless energy in every other aspect of your life.
